As you might expect, in this scenario the IP PBX (and any ancillary equipment) is physically located on a customer’s premises.
Reputable premises IP PBX systems can route calls via the internet (via an xDSL or leased line connection), via ISDN or via standard analogue lines – or a seamless combination of all three.
Minimal management takes place by designated personnel – or alternatively may be undertaken by the service provider via a PC based application or web browser. Access is user / user group based via password authentication.
There are many reasons to consider a premises-based solution, many of which are based upon resilience. There are no hard and fast rules in this respect – it requires bespoke analysis from your telephony provider.
In addition to a number of technical and geographical considerations, premise IP PBX’s are suited to those who feel that they need to retain control of their equipment or who prefer capital expenditure over operational expenditure.
